Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘lost album’ to be released 26 years after his death

Twenty-six years after the passing of the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, his last album, "Chain of Light,” is set for release. This highly anticipated album, featuring the iconic singer’s voice, will be unveiled on September 20, 2024.

The announcement was made via the official Instagram account of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the renowned Pakistani Qawwal. The message revealed that "Chain of Light” is a long-lost album recorded by the maestro himself 34 years ago.

The Instagram post caption proudly stated, "Today we are very proud to announce the release of ‘Chain of Light’, a collaboration between late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his fellow singers and musicians. It will be released on September 20, 2024, in association with Real World Records.”

"Chain of Light” includes four traditional Qawwalis sung by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan along with contributions from eight of his fellow singers and musicians. Notably, the album features one Qawwali that has never been heard before, making this release even more significant for fans of the late maestro.

The album was recorded at Real World Studios in April 1990. This period was also marked by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s collaboration with Canadian producer Michael Brook on the groundbreaking crossover album "Mustt Mustt.”

Fans of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and lovers of Qawwali music worldwide are eagerly anticipating the release of "Chain of Light,” which promises to be a remarkable addition to the rich legacy of the legendary singer.
