U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome boosts economic ties and entrepreneurship during Karachi visit

U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, has reaffirmed the strong commitment of the United States to enhancing trade and economic partnerships with Pakistan during his visit to Karachi from January 21 to 23. The Ambassador’s mission focused on fostering collaboration and promoting entrepreneurship for sustainable economic growth.

Ambassador Blome, in a meeting with the American Business Council (ABC), highlighted the importance of private sector-led growth and emphasized the potential for increased two-way trade and investment between the U.S. and Pakistan. He commended U.S. companies for their corporate social responsibility efforts and engaged with private industry leaders to gain insights into the business climate in Pakistan.

During discussions with members of the Young Presidents’ Organization, a global community of Chief Executives, the Ambassador exchanged views on Pakistan’s investment climate and explored opportunities for economic reform. He underscored the United States’ commitment to supporting the next generation of Pakistani business leaders.

In a visit to the Center for Entrepreneurial Development at the Institute of Business Administration, Ambassador Blome heard from university leaders, start-up entrepreneurs, and innovators about the role the center plays in fostering an entrepreneurial culture and supporting student-led initiatives. Expressing President Biden’s sentiment, he stated, "Every time someone starts a business, it’s an act of hope,” and reaffirmed support for start-ups and entrepreneurs through U.S.-funded programs.

At the National Incubation Center in Karachi, the Ambassador conveyed strong U.S. support for innovators and entrepreneurs working towards promoting innovation, job creation, and economic growth. Discussions centered around ongoing collaboration with the United States, including initiatives such as Global Entrepreneurship Week and the U.S. Speaker Series Program. Ambassador Blome stressed the critical role innovators and entrepreneurs play in addressing the climate crisis and improving access to renewable energy resources.

During his trip, Ambassador Blome also met with the caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (Retired) Maqbool Baqar, and the caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan, Ali Mardan Khan Domki. Conversations focused on collaboration and expanding the U.S.-Pakistan trade and economic partnership, reflecting shared priorities for both countries.

The United States continues its commitment to promoting entrepreneurship globally to stimulate economic growth, create quality jobs, open new markets for U.S. companies, and enhance global economic security and prosperity. Ambassador Blome’s visit signifies a deepening commitment to fostering enduring economic ties between the United States and Pakistan.
