The University of Karachi has unveiled a new four-year degree program titled Digital Media Marketing under the Department of Mass Communication, with immediate admissions now open.
Addressing the launch program at Professor Sarwar Naseem Hall of the University of Karachi, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Iraqi credited the faculty of the department for introducing this program. Following the introduction of Nutrition and Sports Degree Management, the university now offers the Digital Media Marketing program.
Dr. Khalid Iraqi emphasized the changing world dynamics and the essential role of technology for global outreach. He highlighted that the program is technology-focused, aligning with the era of "real data” where digitalization reveals information transparently. While acknowledging the continued significance of traditional media, he stressed that traditional media forms the foundation for digital media, with success dependent on skills and creativity.
Department Chairperson Ismat Ara highlighted the Vice-Chancellor’s vision for a four-year degree program in Digital Media. She expressed optimism that Digital Media Marketing would lead students towards entrepreneurship, enabling them to create their own content. The program, a first among public sector universities in Karachi, is also being introduced in seven private universities. The university is setting up a new lab with 10 computers dedicated to the program.
Asif Iqbal, an industry professional with 22 years of experience, emphasized the growing influence of digital media. He noted that bloggers and digital media marketers are now in higher demand than traditional media professionals. Encouraging the students, he highlighted the program’s benefits.
TV actress Misbah Khaliq, present at the event, emphasized that passion for learning can overcome any obstacles, encouraging students to pursue their educational journey with enthusiasm.
