Karachi police have apprehended three individuals who were suspected of committing a robbery at the home of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader, Waseem Akhtar.
The suspects in custody include a housemaid, her spouse, and a former police officer by the name of Ataullah. Police allege that the housemaid would inform Ataullah of the cash and valuables present at Akhtar’s residence. With the assistance of call data records, the police were able to arrest the suspects a month after the robbery had occurred, and have since recovered jewelry worth approximately Rs15 million.
The stolen items consisted of 18 bangles, two earrings, three rings, and a diamond ring. Police have conducted raids in rural Sindh areas in hopes of recovering the remaining stolen items. Additionally, authorities have reviewed the former police officer’s criminal history.
