As Ramadan 2025 begins, Karachi is witnessing a massive influx of professional beggars, with an estimated 300,000 entering the city and taking over streets, markets, and sidewalks, as reported by local media.
According to media reports, Beggars continue to arrive by trains, buses, and private vehicles, turning the season of charity into a multi-million-rupee industry, while some are reportedly involved in criminal activities.
They have occupied main roads, public transport stations, commercial hubs, and intersections, making movement difficult for pedestrians.
Despite clear directives from the Supreme Court and Sindh High Court (SHC), the provincial government and local authorities have failed to curb the issue.
Notably, in January 2025, the SHC ordered Karachi traffic police to take action against beggars at traffic signals, but enforcement remains weak.
