Karachi administration fines 222 profiteers

Aiming to stabilize prices of essential commodities, the district administration has fined a total of 222 profiteers in Karachi.

Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, chaired a meeting to address rising prices of essential commodities, including naan, groceries items, beef, and mutton.

The session, based on reports from Deputy Commissioners of West and Central, aimed to stabilize prices amid growing public concern.

Key attendees included Deputy Commissioner Keamari Tahir Cheema, Additional Deputy Commissioner South, Samiullah Pathan, and officials from the Food Authority and Bureau of Supply, while other Deputy and Assistant Commissioners joined via video link.

Assistant Commissioner Rabia Syed reported on enforcement actions taken against profiteers, highlighting that 186 grocery shops and 36 beef sellers were fined Rs. 484,000 and Rs. 90,000, respectively, from October 28 to November 3.

The meeting also addressed citizen complaints on civic issues and price violations.

Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar provided updates on complaint resolutions, stating that 474 complaints were resolved, 441 are in progress, and 267 remain pending.

Commissioner Naqvi urged DCs to prioritize citizen grievances, especially concerning illegal parking, encroachments, and profiteering, to ensure prompt action and relief for the residents of Karachi.
