18th Karachi International Book Fair set to showcase global literary diversity

The 18th Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF), scheduled to take place from December 14th to 18th at the Karachi Expo Center, is poised to be a literary extravaganza featuring 150 leading publishers and booksellers from Pakistan and 40 exhibitors representing 17 countries. Organized by the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association, the event aims to bring together literary enthusiasts, publishers, and industry professionals under one roof.

The Managing Committee of KIBF revealed that the book fair has grown to become Pakistan’s largest consumer/trade fair since its inception in 2005. The event will occupy three halls at the Karachi Expo Center, providing a platform for international publishers, including representatives from Iran, India, Turkey, Singapore, China, Malaysia, England, and the UAE.

Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir, is expected to inaugurate the book fair, with Mr. Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Caretaker Minister of Information, Ministry Affairs & Social Protection Department, serving as the Guest of Honor.

The event is anticipated to attract a diverse audience, including families, students, and book lovers from across the country. With over 330 stands displaying books on various subjects, the fair aims to cater to discerning readers.

Convener of the 18th KIBF, Mr. Waqar Mateen Khan, expressed gratitude to the participants and the Managing Committee for their efforts in organizing the event. He anticipates a record-breaking number of visitors, emphasizing the role of such fairs in promoting cultural and creative activities.

Mr. Aziz Khalid, Chairman of the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association, highlighted the international significance of book fairs, stating that they have evolved beyond mere exhibits. He emphasized the importance of these events as forums for publishers and government agencies, playing a crucial role in diplomacy and the exchange of professional expertise.

The 18th KIBF aims to propagate knowledge and foster cultural and creative engagement, particularly among the youth. Anticipated to draw around 400,000 visitors, the fair will feature book launchings, release ceremonies, and various contests, creating an immersive and vibrant literary experience.

The timings for the Karachi International Book Fair are set from 10 am to 9 pm daily, providing ample opportunities for visitors to explore and engage with the literary offerings. The event promises to be a celebration of literature, knowledge, and cultural exchange.
