Mayor Karachi aims to transform city into clean and green hub

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has announced plans to make the metropolis a "clean and green” city by taking measures such as removing wall-chalking and implementing a ban on plastic bags with strict enforcement of laws. He made these remarks during a meeting of departmental heads at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the need for a one-window operation to streamline services and enhance convenience for the citizens. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad expressed gratitude to the residents of Karachi for their trust in the new leadership of the city. He highlighted the importance of stabilizing the financial situation of KMC and identified the cleaning of drains as a critical challenge, particularly in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. He assured that visible improvements will be witnessed by the citizens within the next hundred days.

Mayor Wahab was warmly welcomed at the KMC head office, where officers and employees showered him with rose petals. He emphasized the priority of improving the city’s basic infrastructure, including road maintenance and provision of street lights. Enhancements to KMC hospitals were also highlighted to ensure adequate medical facilities for the citizens. Moreover, the mayor revealed plans to initiate various projects through public-private partnerships, allowing the private sector to contribute to the city’s construction and development efforts.
