Karachi is on the verge of grave situation as the Delta variant spreads rapidly


Sindh government has warned the citizens as the Delta variant of Covid-19 is spreading like a wildfire and the positivity ratio exceeds to 23%, strict measurements are on its way to avert any drastic situation in the city.


According to the health official, 92% of Covid-19 cases are of Delta variant in the city, which is alarming. He further said, "without putting strong non-pharmaceutical interventions in place, Covid’s spread can not be controlled, Karachi is heading towards serious medial crisis.”


Provincial government has called for a meeting of the Provincial Taskforce on Covid-19, to observe the situation in the city and take further measurements. The meeting is to be held today.


Extra beds in hospitals and wards are being set in order to deal with any unwanted circumstances, informed the health official.


“A surgical ward comprising 48 beds is being converted into a COVID-19 ward at the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), while the pulmonology ward at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has also been put on standby to deal with the rising cases due to the Delta variant, which is now spreading like wildfire in the city,” a Sindh Health Department official told the media.


Whereas, Virologists claimed that the hospitalization of the patients in the city has increased comparatively to earlier during third or second wave.
