Karachi Metropolitan board issued a report which provided a detailed account of the number of deceased buried across the city over the last few weeks.
On 30th March, KMC Mayor Wasim Akhtar had designated 5 graves where coronavirus victims would be buried. As per his statement, only a few close relatives would be allowed to attend the burial.
These locations included Mohammad Shah Graveyard in North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Zia Colony Graveyard in Orangi, Mowach Goth Graveyard on Hub River Road, Chakra Goth Graveyard in Korangi and Surjani Town Graveyard near Northern Bypass.
As reported by local news media, nine coronavirus patients were buried in Mohammad Shah Graveyard, one in Chakra Goth Graveyard, Saleemabad Graveyard in Orangi, Paposh Nagar Graveyard, Model Colony Graveyard and Sherpao Colony Graveyard.
The rest of the bodies had been buried by the victims’ relatives and the Edhi Foundation in different graveyards across the city.
In another development, alarming spikes were noted in death rates amongst patients admitted in the hospitals. Based on official statistics 3,265 dead bodies were buried in Karachi Karachi between February 20 and April 9.
However, there have been no official statements connecting these deaths to the coronavirus.
