Following a successful operation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Hyderabad, a key member of a gang allegedly involved in blackmailing women has been arrested in Karachi.
The arrest took place at a private hotel, where Zainul Abideen Shah, a social media worker, was apprehended.
He is accused of blackmailing women by threatening to make private videos of them go viral on social media unless they paid large sums of money.
The investigation revealed that the gang, which includes so-called journalists and individuals associated with fake newspapers, used immoral content to blackmail victims.
The FIA has seized their mobile phones and is collecting additional evidence.
According to FIA investigation officer, Tariq Lashari, the accused had also blackmailed a woman who had left her phone for repair.
Shah allegedly stole personal photos from the phone and demanded money from the woman. The gang has also been linked to blackmailing a female doctor.
The FIA – after receiving a complaint from the woman – took swift action and seized the mobile phone which the accused used to spread the photos on social media.
Meanwhile, further investigations are ongoing, and raids are being conducted to arrest other individuals involved in the criminal activity.
