Sindh forms security committee for foreign nationals at Karachi airport

In a move to provide strict security to foreign nationals, the Interior Minister of Sindh formed a security committee and stressed the need for a security audit at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

Chaired by Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, a high-level security meeting was held at the Sindh Assembly Building, attended by key stakeholders, including law enforcement officials.

The meeting members discussed the security protocols, focusing on airport safety and reforms to strengthen protection for foreign nationals arriving at Karachi airport.

In the meeting, Minister Lanjar emphasized the need for a security audit involving all stakeholders and directed the immediate formation of a committee, headed by Secretary Home Sindh Iqbal Memon, including Additional IG Karachi, DIGs of East, CTD, Special Branch, SPU, and representatives from the Intelligence Bureau, ASF, and Civil Aviation Authority.

The committee’s main role is to establish SOPs related to foreign nationals’ security and enforce security responsibilities.

Minister Lanjar called for additional CCTV installations around the airport to ensure foolproof security, as well as stringent security protocols for foreign visitors in Karachi.

Furthermore, Minister Lanjar urged the committee to create comprehensive SOPs outlining specific roles for each institution, to be submitted for review.

“We are committed to working with dedication and must continue with the same energy,” he said.

Key officials present included IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Secretary Home, Additional IG Karachi, and other high-ranking representatives from law enforcement agencies.

It is worth mentioning here that a suicide blast occurred outside Karachi airport some days before the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, an event attended by numerous foreign dignitaries in Islamabad, further raising security concerns for foreign nationals in Pakistan.
