Sindh Excise Department launches home delivery of vehicle number plates

In a significant move aimed at enhancing public convenience, the Sindh Excise Department has introduced a new initiative to deliver vehicle number plates directly to residents’ homes. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Minister Memon, who oversees several key portfolios including transport and mass transit, excise, taxation, and the narcotics and control department, also revealed plans to establish dedicated offices specifically for the issuance of premium number plates.

In a bid to further accommodate the public, a motor registration office will be set up in Karachi’s District South. This new office will have extended operating hours into the evening, making it easier for residents to manage their registration needs outside of standard business hours.

During the meeting, Memon highlighted the success of the first phase of the premium number plate issuance, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public. Building on this success, the Excise Department is set to launch the second phase of the premium number plate auction soon.

To streamline the process further, steps will be taken to simplify vehicle registration procedures. “Our primary duty and responsibility is to provide maximum facilities to the public,” Memon emphasized. “We aim to run the Excise Department in a corporate manner, ensuring efficiency and convenience for all.”

The recent auction of premium number plates underscored the public’s keen interest and willingness to invest in these exclusive identifiers. Last week, the department auctioned off the premium number plate (A 1) for an impressive Rs100 million, with Muzammil Kareem Paracha placing the highest bid. Another sought-after premium number plate, 786, fetched Rs26.5 million, with businessman Sarosh making the top offer.

The introduction of home delivery for vehicle number plates and the establishment of new registration offices represent significant steps towards modernizing the Excise Department’s operations and improving service delivery for the residents of Sindh. As the second phase of the premium number plate auction approaches, the department remains committed to providing innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the public.
